The Patient/Family Care Study is an academic, practical work carried out by a final year student nurse. It gives an account of care given to a patient with a particular disease within a specific period of time usually from the time of admission till the patient is discharged.
The Study serves as partial fulfillment of the requirement for the award of Diploma in Registered General Nursing Certificate by the Nurses and Midwives Council for Ghana.
The aim of this study is to enable the student nurse use all knowledge acquired from various disciplines such as medicine, surgery, public health, pharmacology, microbiology during the course of training to give individualized nursing care to the patient and family and also to improve upon their writing and typing skills.
It also enables the student nurse to appreciate teamwork among the various hospital staff which contributes to faster recovery of the patient. In order to ensure efficient nursing care, the student nurse is expected to research into a particular condition of the patient selected to gain the necessary skills and knowledge for the future care of patients. It also provides a baseline for the future management of patients with similar problems.
